Milt Bassett ( Teacher / Coach 1973 - 1979 )


1964 Graduate of Woodward High School where he was an All-State Running Back for the Boomers

Played Football at NWOSU (Alva) until an injury ended his career and he became a student coach and scout

Received his B.S. Degree in Education in 1968 from NWOSU (Alva) and then received his M.S. Degree in Administration in 1971 from NWOSU (Alva)

Before coming to Purcell, Milt was the Head Football coach at Tribune, KS and an assistant at Shawnee High School. Milt was the Defensive Coordinator at Enid High School when he accepted the Head Football Coaching Position at Purcell in Spring of 1973

Head Football Coach at Purcell for 6 seasons (1973 - 1978) where he compiled a record of (52-16-1), which makes him the 5th winningest head football coach ever for the Dragons

Won 3 District Championships (73 - 74 - 78). Qualified for the playoffs 4 out of his 6 years at Purcell.

Head Football Coach 1978 Purcell Class A State Semi-Finalists (10 - 4)

Left Purcell to take Head Football Coach position at Yukon High School in the Spring of 1979

Graduate Assistant Coach University of Oklahoma Football. 1984 & 1985 Big 8 Champions

After serving as the Woodward High School Principal for five years, Milt once again became the Head Football Coach of the Boomers, who eventually would win the 1994 Class 5A State Championship

Milt has a lifetime record of (134 - 54 - 2) as a High School Football Head Coach

After retiring at Woodward, Milt also was an assistant football coach at Henrietta, TX for 2 years

Currently the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Coaches Association where he has served since 2000

Milt has also been inducted into the OCA Hall of Fame, the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame, and the Oil Bowl Hall of Fame
