Dennis Yoakum
Dennis J. Yoakum ( Teacher / Principal / Coach )
A 1940 graduate of Rosedale, OK High School
During WWII, Dennis served a US Army Air Force calisthenics instructor
A graduate of Central State University (Edmond) and Phillips University, Dennis also received his Administrator's Certificate from the University of Oklahoma
After graduation, he coached basketball, baseball, and softball at Loyal, OK Public Schools
Dennis came to Purcell in 1955 as Principal & 6th Grade Teacher at Mary Simpson Elementary School . Dennis also later served as the 5th and 6th grade basketball coach
In 1978, Dennis became the Purcell Middle School Principal, a position he held until 1981 when he became the McClain County Superintendent until his retirement in 1985
Dennis was instrumental in the lives of many young Purcell athletes as he encouraged basketball, baseball, and softball activities not only within the school, but also competitively with Hawthorne Elementary School which was also located here in Purcell
Dennis was an outstanding role model for all young Purcell student-athletes during their formative years. His greatest gift was being such a positive influence on the many students under his guidance over the years
A long-time Purcell sports enthusiast, Dennis could always be seen at PHS athletic events cheering on his former student-athletes
