Starting Forward on the (1960 - 1961) Class B State Basketball Championship Team that finished with a ( 28-1 ) season record losing only to Class 5A Dallas (TX), Perry Samuels High School
In the 1961 Class B State Basketball Finals against an undefeated Lawton Douglass team, Jimmy scored 27 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in Purcell's (69 - 59) win
Selected to the All-Tournament Team for the 1961 Class B State Basketball Tournament.
Averaged (15.3) points per game as a Junior for the Dragons
Named as an Alternate to the 1962 Oklahoma All-State Football team as an End
Starting Forward on the (1961 - 1962) Purcell Dragons Basketball Team that finished (23 - 3) and were beaten in the Regional Finals, just one game shy of the 1962 Class B State Tournament
Averaged (24.5) points and (18.4) rebounds per game as a Senior for the Dragons

Acknowledged by Boney Matthews as one of the three best PHS Basketball players (along with Lester Lane and Mike McCurdy ) that he ever coached
Accpeted a scholarship to play basketball at Kansas State University where he played for one year (1962 - 1963). Jimmy then decided to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army
While in the Army, Jimmy played on numerous high level military basketball teams over the next 10 to 12 years while he served. He made the "All-Army Basketball Team" many of those years
